Can my electrician install my new air conditioning unit?

Your electrician may be able to install simple split system air conditioner systems however they must hold a refrigeration license issued by the Australian Insulation Council and be properly insured. There might be many electricians that advertise this work as a side job, but we always recommend asking questions about their licensing and experience. If you have the option we will always recommend choosing a reputable refrigeration mechanic for installation work. This is because in our experience the most  problems with air conditioning systems is not the unit itself, but the way in which it was set up. This can lead to the system not operating the way it should and costing more money, or cause repairs to be necessary down the track.
